The Once and Future Dentist
By D. Richard Pearce
“‘He was the most skillful gambler, and the nerviest, fastest, deadliest man with a six-gun I ever saw.’ Do you know who said that, Doctor?”
He coughed politely and sat in a nearby chair. “Begging your pardon, ma’am, I’d be more interested in who they were talking about.”
She laughed softly, and seemed to turn her attention to him fully for the first time. “Wyatt Earp said those words about you, Doctor. At your funeral, I suspect, though I don’t know for sure.”
About the Author
D. Richard Pearce

D. Richard Pearce is a writer from the west coast of Canada. He is currently in exile because of crimes committed by his weasels. Pearce writes in many perspectives, not least of which is third person, the style chosen for this biography. While this can be awkward and confusing in writing about oneself, it means that the label can be “BIO” and not “AUTOBIO.” He likes writing sentences without Proper Casing, but only on personal websites or blogs, or, indeed, bios—never in stories—as he believes in saving avant-garde for the funny papers.
About the Narrator
Serah Eley

Serah Eley is the original producer, editor and host of Escape Pod. She mispronounced her name as Steve Eley at the time, but has since realized that life is much more fun as a woman, and came out as transgender in 2015. Serah lives in Atlanta, Georgia, with her two spouses (she prefers “spice”), Sadi and Cat.
So if there were ever any betting pools on what happened to Steve: the dark-horse winner is “changed sex and joined a committed lesbian love triangle.” She is, obviously, still Having Fun.
