[...] And if you are into Scottish Horror - and I’m not talkin’ Haggis here - you might want to check out William Meikle’s Scottish Vampire and Horror Fiction. Me, I’m more of a sci fi than horror buff, but I did enjoy Meikle’s Lovecraftian short When The Stars Are Right. William, you might want to check out Escape Pod.
[...] Aside from established storytelling sites like This American Life (which now offers streaming mp3s but sells DRM content on Audible.com), the best-produced show I’ve heard of so far is Escapepod, a sci fi fiction weekly audio magazine. People submit stories in the normal fashion, and experienced podcasters (like Mur Lafferty or Scott Sigler or editor Stephen Eley himself) read accepted stories aloud. Each week’s episode not only an entertaining variety of fiction/essays/minireviews, it even pays writers a modest sum (a rarity on the Net these days). Like Podiobooks, Escapepod is another fiction site sustained primarily through donations, confirming the point I made three years ago that reduced transaction costs and restrictive licenses by Big Media makes the tipjars/donation model much more attractive for creative projects.
