I did indeed write a story that uses a voting system based on popularity--"She's All Light", which was published by Daybreak Magazine and recently nominated as a Notable Story of 2010 by storySouth Million Writers. You can find the story at http://daybreakmagazine.wordpress.com/2010/01/08/daybreak-fiction-shes-all-light/

As for voting for people, I had considered also putting up a reading for the Neil Gaiman contest. However, I noticed another woman I had met at the American Gods event at the House on the Rock last year had also put one up, and figured she did such a better job than me, I would send all my votes to her. It was that face-to-face connection we had that made me to want to vote for her, but also the fact that her reading really *was* that good. So I think there's also an element of craftmanship that goes along with it. There must be a certain something there that makes a person say, "I really like this. I'm going to vote for it."

Well, I received a random request to vote for someone in this contest on another website I visit. I did click through, and hit the vote button, but then it told me to register. So the registration barrier to entry stopped me cold in my tracks that time.

However, having actually read articles written by you and then seeing this personal note on the subject, I'm going to go ahead and hurdle that barrier to entry called 'registration,' and assist you in your quest!

I hate how I have to register separately for nearly every website I visit - I don't usually mind signing in with an overarching profile, but those are not implemented very often for things I'm actually interested in. So I suppose you should go ahead and write that registration article anyways ... :-D
